You may start seeing a new term in federal resources and benefits materials: CHOICE Arrangements. Here’s what it means for your program.<\/p>\n

On September 3, 2026, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) introduced a new public-facing name for<\/p>\n

Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRAs). They are now being referred to as CHOICE Arrangements, which stands for Custom Health Option and Individual Care Expense Arrangements.<\/p>\n

The name is new, but the benefit is not.<\/strong><\/p>\n

CHOICE Arrangements are the same employer-funded benefit you may already know as an ICHRA: employers set a contribution amount, and employees use it to buy qualifying individual health coverage. The rebrand does not affect the rules, eligibility requirements, or compliance obligations that come with the arrangement. If you offer an ICHRA today, you can keep administering it exactly as you do now.<\/p>\n

\u200bWhat to Expect<\/strong><\/p>\n

For a while, you’ll likely see both terms in use. “CHOICE Arrangement” will show up in newer federal and educational materials, while “ICHRA” remains the term in existing regulations and much of the industry conversation. Both refer to the same benefit model, so there’s no need to update your plan documents or internal materials on account of the name alone.<\/p>\n

\u200bWhat You Should Do<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nothing is required right now. However, as you review your benefits materials, it\u2019s helpful to be aware of \u00a0the new term, so that if an employee or colleague asks about “CHOICE Arrangements,” you can tell them it’s the same coverage option you already offer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
