What’s the Answer for the Struggling Middle Class? Obama, Romney or Maybe FSAs? Election Day 2012 Edition

Posted on November 6th, 2012

In their own words, politicians on either side of the fence agree that the middle-class is hurting.

“Middle-income families are being crushed.” – Mitt Romney

“The Middle Class has been buried.” – Joe Biden

A hot topic during the 2012 presidential election has been health care reform and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). American workers are paying more out of their pocket for health care expenses than ever before. No matter which party line you side on – everyone seems to agree that the financial burden carried by the middle class is disproportionate in one way or another.

So, here’s a new idea to help the middle-class keep more of their hard earned dollars – eliminate the Use-it or Lose-it rule on flexible spending accounts (FSAs). The FSA should be as consumer-driven as the health savings account (HSA) and health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) that succeeded it.

“Getting rid of the Use-It or Lose-It rule will send a clear signal that efficiencies are being built into the new system to better serve the 160-million working Americans in the mainstream of economic life,” says Flex CEO, Allen Wishner. “The Use-It or Lose-It rule impacts middle-class families, the largest users of FSAs, and a market segment that government hopes to help provide a rise in income. “

Since 1988, Flexible Benefit Service LLC (Flex) has been thinking in scale. We believe Americans should know their options and stay sharp on what’s going on around them. In fact, we are advocates for you.

Pass this message on to others who care about their health care expenses and don’t forget to vote!
